ASTM A580

317 SS is a heat resisting steel and exhibits superior corrosion resistance to other grades of stainless steel when exposed to many types of chemical corrodents. This steel is particularly resistant to pitting by solutions containing chloride ions, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, sea water, and other conditions where particles are deposited on the metal surface. Type 317 has higher tensile and creep strength at elevated temperatures than the other 18-8 alloy. Can be used at temperatures up to 1700°F. It is nonmagnetic when annealed, and slightly magnetic when cold worked. Widely used in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, medical, refining, power plant, aircraft, photographic, textile, and paper equipment.
